9 big announcements Google made for India

1.Free Wi-Fi at public places with Google Station:Google plans to expand this project with the launch of Google Station, providing more Wi-Fi spots in public spaces like bus stops, cafeterias and shopping malls.

2.Google Assistant to now speak in Hindi:The assistant which powers the 'smart replies' feature in Google Allo will be made available in Hindi soon.

3.Google's WhatsApp rival was first launched in India:At the event, Google claimed that India was among the very the first countries where its messaging app Allo was rolled out.

4.Chrome gets 'Data Saver' feature:The internet browser will be updated with 3 key features - Data saving, Offline capability and Content discovery. In order to save data, web pages will be optimized. Offline functionality would help users save their favourite videos, articles etc. for later access, even if there’s no network connectivity.

5.'The India-inspired app' YouTube Go announced:Keeping in mind that majority of the population of India doesn’t have access to high speed internet, Google has launched its YouTube Go app.
Developed around four key aspects - Reliability, Connectivity, Cost and Sociability, YouTube Go aims to enable users to stream videos even on slow internet connections.

6.Google Accelerator to launch in India soon:To be launched in India later this year, Google Accelerator connects to Wi-Fi via satellite.The device stores thousands of videos and can stream them to other devices. Google Accelerator has been quite successful in the Philippines.

7.Google Play Store gets 2G update:Most villages in India don’t have access to high-speed internet connections.So to reduce data lag on slower connections, Google Play Store will soon allow downloading of apps even on 2G connections.

8.Google Duo is most-used app in India globally after US:Google’s video calling app Duo, that’s expected to compete against FaceTime and Skype, has the maximum number of users in India after US.The app’s 'Knock-Knock' feature notifies you when someone is trying to call you.

9.Google News goes Lite:oogle News and Weather are getting a new 'Lite mode' for people on 2G connections. The mode will keep the the headline while trimming rest of the content so that the page loads faster.
